Pinterest Opens Registration to Public

Pinterest, the social media website that got people create their very own visual boards, has thrown away the by-invitation-only registration and is now open to the public after two years since its launch. Anyone can sign up using their Twitter, Facebook, or their email address.

“We’re really excited to have the capacity to offer Pinterest to more people and if you’re a Pinner with friends who’ve been waiting on the sidelines, we hope you’ll let them know. Happy pinning to everyone,” Pinterest posted on its official blog.

Pinterest has hit 10 million unique monthly visitors from the United States back in February and does not seem to be slowing down. The website reached 107 million visits per month last April, becoming the third most-visited social media site after Facebook and Twitter.

ComScore even reported that Pinterest had achieved a staggering 4377% year over year growth as of May 2012, with an overwhelming female user base–possibly as high as 97 percent.
